Nestor Cortes 2022 Player Outlook: Late-Round Value If He Can Repeat 2021
3 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Nestor Cortes was fantastic in 2021, posting a 2.90 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and 102 strikeouts over 93 innings. He worked as a swingman and made 14 starts for the Yankees last season, allowing three runs or less in 13 of them. The southpaw relied on location and surrendered a career-low .265 BAIP to opposing hitters. He's been hurt by the long ball in his career, evidenced by his career 1.99 HR:9 over 172 career innings. The 27-year-old should provide plenty of value as a backend starter if he can come close to 2021 stats. Cutter projections are on board with Cortes producing in 2021 and predict the lefty to post an 11-8 record, 3.78 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 170 strikeouts over 158 innings. Cortes is penciled in as New York's No. 4 starter and is roughly fair value at his current 323 ADP.
