Trevor Story 2022 Player Outlook: Remains A Strong Fantasy Asset Despite Leaving Colorado
3 years agoAfter the MLB lockout ended, free Agent shortstop Trevor Story signed a six-year, $140 million contract with the Boston Red Sox. With Xander Bogaerts entrenched as the team's starting shortstop, the 29-year-old will shift to second base and pick up dual eligibility in 2022. He slashed .251/.329/.471 with 24 home runs, 75 RBI, 88 runs, and 20 stolen bases in 142 games in his final season with the Rockies. However, he slashed .203/.292/.426 on the road last season. He was a bit unlucky and saw his BAIP drop from .354 in 2020 to .293 in 2021. The move away from hitter-friendly Coors Field to Boston shouldn't affect his offensive production as Story will be peppering balls off the Green Monster with regularity. Story will be hitting in the heart of the order with J.D. Martinez and Xander Bogaerts. ATC projects Story to slash .258/.331/.479 with 28 home runs, 82 RBI, 91 runs scored, and 22 stolen bases over 632 plate appearances in 2022. Although, the 22 stolen bases may be an outlier as the Red Sox are not a team that typically runs, evidenced by catcher Christian Vazquez leading the team with eight stolen bases in 2021. Fantasy managers should expect Story to remain a solid fantasy asset by hitting 25-plus homers and swiping double-digit bags in 2022.
