Andrew Vaughn 2022 Player Outlook: Late-Round Value, Upside Is There To Be A Four-Category Star
3 years agoAfter making the team out of Spring Training, Chicago White Sox's first baseman/outfielder Andrew Vaughn had an up-and-down rookie season. His stats were below fantasy expectations, slashing .235/.309/.396 with 15 home runs, 48 RBI, 56 runs scored, and one stolen base over 469 plate appearances in 2021. The 2019 first-round pick struggled against right-handers, evidenced by his .221/.277/.332 slash line versus them, having manager Tony LaRussa benching Vaughn and favoring a platoon last season. Vaughn has 70-grade power with the upside to be a four-category star. He flashed his potential in July of last season, slashing .308/.347/.516 with four homers and 12 RBIs over 98 plate appearances. ATC projections are on board with Vaughn bouncing back from a roller-coaster rookie campaign, predicting a .252/.330/.436 slash line with 20 home runs, 64 RBI, 63 runs scored, and two stolen bases over 534 plate appearances in 2022. The 23-year-old's struggles last season should keep his draft price down, but if Vaughn can improve against righties, the upside is there, and he is an excellent value pick at his current 231 ADP.
