Kenley Jansen To Be Braves Primary Closer
3 years agoRelief pitcher Kenley Jansen will be the Atlanta Braves primary closer after signing to a one-year, $16 million deal on Friday night. Left-handed reliever Will Smith is fine with the move and told general manager Alex Anthopoulous that he just wants to win another World Series ring. It's obviously a big hit to Smith's fantasy value after he had a career-high 37 saves in his second year in Atlanta. The southpaw also struck out 87 hitters in 68 regular season innings, so he'll have some appeal in holds leagues in 2022. Jansen is 34 years old, but the three-time All-Star had 38 saves and 86 K's in 69 innings for the Los Angeles Dodgers last year. The right-hander will remain a strong source of saves in fantasy with his new team, while back in LA, Blake Treinen should be the Dodgers primary ninth-inning man.
