Devin Williams Working On A New Pitch
3 years agoMilwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Devin Williams is working on a slider/cutter for the 2022 season. Williams threw a slider in the minors but abandoned it in the majors because the baseballs have lower seams. He worked on the pitch all winter and thinks it could be a third weapon to complement his fastball and changeup. The hard-throwing right-hander is already one of the nastier relief arms in baseball, and this new pitch could make him that much more filthy if it's effective. Williams was the National League Rookie of the Year in 2020 and had a 2.50 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 87 strikeouts and three saves in 54 relief innings in 2021. Already fantasy relevant for his K's and holds, Williams would be even more attractive as a closer if the Brewers were to trade Josh Hader.
