Eduardo Escobar 2022 Player Outlook: Expect A Subpar Batting Average With Pop At Multiple Positions
3 years agoNew York Mets infielder Eduardo Escobar spent time with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Milwaukee Brewers last season, slashing .253/.314/.472 with 28 home runs, 90 RBI, 77 runs scored, and a stolen base over 146 games. He signed a two-year, $20 million contract with the Mets during the offseason. The 33-year-old has multiple eligibility and will qualify at first (18 games), second (42 games), and third base (99 games) in most leagues in 2022. Escobar's home run pop is still there, evidenced by his .455 xSLG, which was 66th in MLB percentile rankings per Baseball Savant. The veteran will be with his third team since the 2021 season and is expected to hit out of six spot in a revamped Mets lineup, which includes new additions Mark Canha and Starling Marte. Cutter/ATC projects Escobar to .243 with 20-plus homers and 70 RBI in 2022. According to Rotoballer's Expected Draft Values, Escobar is roughly fair value at his current 191 ADP. Fantasy managers can expect Escobar to be an instrumental player at the hot corner and keystone as long as his skills don't deteriorate heading into his age-33 season.
