year agoOn Saturday afternoon, Ryan Blaney qualified 28th for Sunday's EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix at Circuits of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, TX. Despite last week's 16th-place finish at Bristol, Blaney enters Sunday's race with considerable momentum, as he has already earned three top-five finishes in 2024. Unfortunately for the reigning Cup Series champion, Sunday's race is on a road course, a style of track he has just one victory on in his Cup career (2018 Charlotte Roval). While he is not disastrous on road courses, he is not very impressive either. In the 11 road course races using the NextGen car, the second-generation Cup star has achieved three top 10s but no top-fives, suggesting he struggles to finish this style of race. With this said the one argument that could be made for Blaney is that his DraftKings salary is just $7,500. If Blaney scores just 37.93 points in Sunday's race, which is what he is averaging in the new aerodynamic package that will be used at COTA, he will hit the 5x value you typically look for when building a DFS lineup. While we wouldn't recommend going overweight on the No. 12, you also should not miss out on the opportunity to get an elite driver at a mid-tier price, starting from a position that offers significant place differential upside. --Adam Erhardt - RotoBaller

weeks agoRyan Blaney's performance on Sunday was defined by struggle and disappointment. Starting from the rear of the field due to having to his team having to repair his car due to a practice crash, Blaney began the first stage, making moves through the field. Blaney intended to split the first stage into two green flag runs but had issues during his pit stop, causing him to go two laps down. It wouldn't be until lap 109 in the middle of the second stage when Blaney returned to the lead lap, and he made the most of it as he got to sixth by the end of the stage. In the final stage, Blaney ran around the top five before getting caught in contact with Noah Gragson and Bubba Wallace, causing his car to spin and get massive damage. The No. 12 Ford driver would be unable to continue the race, being scored 35th for the day.--Sean Engel - RotoBaller

weeks agoOnce again, Ryan Blaney is the chalk DFS pick at Las Vegas. After blowing a right rear tire during practice on Saturday afternoon, Blaney backed his No. 12 Ford into the fence, damaging the back end and forcing his Team Penske crew to repair the car. Luckily, the team didn't have to pull out the backup car, and Blaney will be able to start the race in the vehicle he planned to this weekend. Blaney ended up 28th-fastest in practice but seemed to have a better car than that, especially on the long run, as his 15-lap average during practice was ninth-quickest on the board. Here in Sin City, Blaney has finished seventh or better in 10 of his 17 career Cup Series starts. In DFS contest this weekend, you have to play him at $9,300--especially in cash games--simply for the massive Place Differential upside.--Jordan McAbee

weeks agoIf we were to tell you that there was a driver who hasn't finished worse than fifth in the last seven races at Phoenix Raceway, a normal reaction would be, "well he has definitely won at least one or two of those, right?" Unfortunately for Ryan Blaney, that answer is no. Some how, some way, he is still searching for his first victory at Phoenix Raceway despite entering this weekend's Shriners Children's 500 with a seven-race streak of top-five finishes at the track -- including four runner-up results over the last five. Now the question is, will Blaney finally break through and get a win this weekend? It certainly wouldn't be surprising. The No. 12 Ford was one of the strongest on the long runs during practice on Saturday, as Blaney looked solid when it came to tire fall-off and ranked inside the top five when it came to 15-, 20-, 25-, and 30-lap average. With his track history and strong practice times, Blaney is an excellent fantasy choice all around, especially in DraftKings since he qualified 12th and has some place-differential upside to go along with it. Even at $10,800, Blaney is a very good DFS option this weekend.--Jordan McAbee

weeks agoTeam Penske's Ryan Blaney obtained a starting position of 25th after qualifying for this week's Echopark Texas Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas. This marks the third consecutive race in Blaney's Cup career where he will start outside of the top 10 at the site. In four starts at COTA, the No. 12 Team Penske Ford driver has an average finish of 14.0 and has never placed lower than 21st. Blaney also collected positive place differential in his previous two races at the Texas road course after starting at the back half of the field, similar to this week. In both the first and final practice sessions, Blaney displayed top-10 speeds in most formats on speed, and he has great upside from his starting position. DFS Players will find Blaney to be an excellent addition for lineups in this week's race based on his salary ($7,800).--Sean Engel - RotoBaller
