Cubs Considering Rhys Hoskins
1 year agoThe Chicago Cubs have an opening at first base and need a middle-of-the-order hitter and view free-agent first baseman Rhys Hoskins (knee) as a good fit for their roster, according to league sources. The Cubs see it as another opportunity to add an impact player with playoff experience without having to go long on a contract. Hoskins tore the ACL in his left knee in spring training and missed all of 2023. The Philadelphia Phillies declined to offer Hoskins a $20.3 million qualifying offer and plan to use Bryce Harper full time at first base moving forward, so he almost certainly won't return to Philly. Hoskins hit 18 home runs in his first 50 games, had 34 homers and 96 RBI in 2018, led the National League in walks in 2019 and hit 57 home runs and drove in 150 over his last two seasons.
