Jon Gray Doesn't Receive A Qualifying Offer
3 years agoColorado Rockies starting pitcher Jon Gray did not receive a one-year, $18.4 million qualifying offer from the team on Sunday. Gray, 30, could still re-sign with the Rockies and has expressed a desire to stay in Colorado. The Rockies offered Gray what was thought to be a three- or four-year deal in the range of $35-40 million during the final week of the season, but he turned it down. Gray is interested in returning to the team, but he will explore his options on the open market. The right-hander has inexplicably been really good at hitter-friendly Coors Field, so it makes sense for him to have interest in sticking around, but he went just 8-12 with a 4.59 ERA and 1.33 WHIP while striking out 157 and walking 58 in 149 innings over his 29 starts this year. He was even worse in 2020 with a 6.69 ERA in just eight starts.
