Tyler Kroft 2021 Outlook: Emerging As Jets No. 1 Tight End
3 years agoTyler Kroft joined the New York Jets tight end room hoping to battle Ryan Griffin for the No. 2 job behind Chris Herndon after coming over from Buffalo on a one-year, $2 million deal in free agency. But with Herndon struggling to take the next step, the door of opportunity has opened for Kroft, and he hasn't disappointed this summer. The 28-year-old has gone over 130 receiving yards just once in his six-year career, but he has developed a nice chemistry with rookie quarterback Zach Wilson and caught the first two touchdowns of Wilson's career in a preseason game against the Green Bay Packers. Kroft is still not much more than a TE2 sleeper in deeper fantasy leagues, but he could be a big-bodied (6-foot-6, 252 pounds) red-zone target for the Jets offense in 2021 if he indeed wins the No. 1 TE job in New York and runs with it. Rookie signal-callers often lean on their tight ends as a safety blanket underneath, so don't completely sleep on Kroft in 2021.
