Jameis Winston The Favorite To Start For Saints
3 years agoNew Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston has emerged as the favorite to win the starting QB job after another strong showing in the preseason win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday night. Winston had a couple highlight-reel throws on Monday night and can complete the type of throws that now-retired QB Drew Brees was unable to make in the last couple of seasons. Head coach Sean Payton has declined to officially name Winston as the starter, but it seems that it's headed that way. With Winston as the starter, New Orleans can keep Taysom Hill in his typical gadget role in the offense as well. Winston completed nine of his 10 passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns on Monday night, including a 43-yard touchdown bomb to Marquez Callaway. The 27-year-old has a big arm, but the Saints don't have many reliable pass-catchers outside of Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara, and Winston has been extremely turnover-prone in his career. In the right matchups, he'll be an attractive streamer, but Winston should be drafted as a midrange QB2, at best, if he wins the job.
