Zach Wilson 2021 Outlook: Spotlight On Wilson As New Face Of Jets
3 years agoThe New York Jets used the second overall pick on Zach Wilson, who will be given the keys to the franchise that has struggled to find its franchise QB for over a decade now. The Jets went 2-14 last season and cleaned house, casting aside Sam Darnold in favor of Wilson while also bringing in a new head coach/offensive coordinator combo in Robert Saleh and Mike LaFleur. Wilson was a three-year starter at BYU, but only rose to stardom in his final season in Provo, throwing for 3,692 yards with a 33:3 TD:INT ratio while completing 73.5 percent of his passes. Impressive stats yes, but it remains to be seen how Wilson will respond to the increase in talent and complexity he'll see from NFL defenses. Fortunately for Wilson, the Jets are doing everything they can to help the rookie signal-caller. They beefed up the offensive line and also got Wilson some weapons by signing former Titan receiver Corey Davis and drafting receiver Elijah Moore and running back Michael Carter. Wilson has all the physical tools and boasts massive long-term upside; whether he reaches that upside will largely depend on how quickly he adjusts to an NFL system, as well as his maturity playing in the media circus that is New York. Dynasty managers should be intrigued by Wilson, but redraft managers should take a wait-and-see approach to the rookie. His primary appeal is his status as the Week 1 starter making him a late-round flier in Superflex leagues.
