Madison Bumgarner Throws Simulated Game
3 years agoArizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner (shoulder) threw a 35-pitch, two-inning simulated game on Tuesday as he works his way back from the 10-day injured list. Bumgarner left his start on June 2 with left shoulder discomfort after just two innings against the New York Mets. The veteran left-hander may need another simulated game or two before moving to a minor league rehab assignment, which means he's unlikely to be back before the All-Star break. Before his injury the 31-year-old was 4-5 with a 5.73 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 62/18 K/BB in his 12 starts covering 59 2/3 innings. His 4.45 FIP suggests he hasn't been quite as bad as it would see and the strikeouts have been nice, but Bumgarner just doesn't have much upside these days. He had a 6.48 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in his nine starts last year, too.
