Mike Davis 2021 Player Outlook: Journeyman RB Set For Career Year
4 years agoAtlanta Falcons' running back Mike Davis is on his fifth team in six seasons, and after a "breakout" campaign in 2020 with the Carolina Panthers, he's looking to prove that last year was no fluke that saw him finish as RB16 with star Christian McCaffrey out for the majority of the year. Davis turned in career highs in carries, rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. Davis is the clear lead back in an Atlanta backfield that saw the top three ball carriers from last season all end up elsewhere in 2021. Davis will likely have much less work in the passing game due to the pass-catchers Atlanta features in wideouts Calvin Ridley, Russell Gage and, as of this writing, Julio Jones, along with tight ends Kyle Pitts and Hayden Hurst. However, that running work is his for the taking, and new head coach Arthur Smith is coming from Tennessee where his running backs had over 400 carries last season. Davis won't be getting that workload, but, as long as Atlanta doesn't add legitimate competition, for a starting running back with an ADP currently in the sixth round, you'd be stealing if you get him at that price.
