Hunter Henry 2021 Outlook: Will Be Hard To Earn His Multimillions
4 years agoHunter Henry has fascinated fantasy footballers during his career due to his above-average pass-catching skills and his ability to score (21 touchdowns in 55 games). Even though most fantasy players think of him as a solid contributor, Henry has been slightly underwhelming. He's never had a 700-yard season, has averaged under four receptions per game during his career, has only scored 13 touchdowns over the past three seasons after scoring eight times in his rookie campaign, and missed 25 games due to injury. Henry parlayed his four years with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers into a $37.5 million deal with the New England Patriots. Yet, he might not even be the most valuable tight end on his own squad. Former Tennessee Titan Jonnu Smith scores his fair share of touchdowns (eight in 2020) and can also stretch the field on seam routes, so Henry will battle for targets and touches with a tight end teammate just as skilled as he is. The talented tight end will also have either scattershot Cam Newton or rookie Mac Jones throwing to him after Philip Rivers and Justin Herbert were his quarterbacks when he was with the Chargers. That is a downgrade. Henry should provide 60 receptions for 700 yards and six scores if he stays injury-free, but he is not going to put up Rob Gronkowski-in-his-prime numbers in New England. Henry is a top-12 fantasy tight end entering the season, but not a top-tier TE.
