Kadarius Toney 2021 Outlook: Rookie Receiver Brings Upside, But No Floor
4 years agoThe New York Giants traded back in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft and used that pick to select wide receiver Kadarius Toney out of the University of Florida. Toney had a career season in 2020, posting 984 yards and 10 touchdowns on 70 catches. In his first three seasons combined, he posted 50 catches, 606 yards, and two touchdowns. He is also utilized in the running game, rushing for 580 yards in his college career. Toney is a raw route runner as he made the move to receiver from QB in college. But, he was a first-round pick because he is a freak athlete with blazing speed. He is the most dangerous receiver after the catch in this year's draft. Toney picked up 27 explosive plays (15+ yards) and forced 20 missed tackles, both of which ranked in the top-five in this class. He did so working primarily out of the slot at Florida. He has a ton of upside, but he did not fall into the best landing spot. The Giants have a lot of pass-catching options, all in an offense that will be led by Jason Garrett and Daniel Jones. He is a low-floor, high-upside receiver who can be had in the later rounds of drafts. His ideal format is best ball.
