Lions Planning To Release Chase Daniel, Danny Shelton
4 years agoThe Detroit Lions are clearing some salary cap space after re-signing Romeo Okwara on Monday, and sources say that they are planning to release quarterback Chase Daniel ($4.55 million salary) and defensive tackle Danny Shelton ($4 million salary). The Lions had been shopping Daniel for a trade in the past week. The moves combined should clear out a total of $6.3 million in cap space for the 2021 season. Daniel signed a three-year deal last year, but the Lions have a new starting quarterback in Jared Goff and may be fine with David Blough backing him up. Shelton's release will leave the team short-handed at defensive tackle. The talented veteran should land on his feet elsewhere as a big run-stuffer. Detroit will be hoping last year's sixth-round pick, John Penisini, can step up at nose tackle.
