Patriots Add Another Tight End In Hunter Henry
4 years agoThe New England Patriots signed former Los Angeles Chargers tight end Hunter Henry to a three-year, $37.5 million deal on Tuesday, according to a source. The deal includes $25 million guaranteed. The league's top two tight ends on the open market, Henry and Jonnu Smith, both wind up in New England. Henry's $12.5 million average per season puts him alongside Smith among the top tight ends in the league -- George Kittle and Travis Kelce. The 26-year-old should complement Smith well, and he can be a difference-maker that can outrun linebackers when he's healthy. Henry had 60 catches for 613 yards and four touchdowns in 14 games in 2020. In the first two days of free agency, the Patriots have seriously upgraded quarterback Cam Newton's weaponry, also adding receivers Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne. Henry and Smith could eat into each other's production in terms of TE1 upside, but these additions will surely make Newton a bounce-back candidate in 2021.
