Julio Urias 2021 Player Outlook: Being Overdrafted
4 years agoJulio Urias has always tantalized the fantasy community because he's a lefty who throws a mid-90s fastball, has excellent complementary pitches, possesses good command, and has shown maturity beyond his years from an early age. Now we have recency bias, as he dominated during the Dodgers' World Series run, pitching in six games (starting two) and posting a 1.17 ERA, .138 BAA, and .263 SLG in 23 innings pitched. Now Urias is projected to be the number four starter. The strikeout rate was 20.1% last season while the walk rate was 8%. The swinging strike rate was 11.7%. Those are good numbers but not eye-popping. Here's the thing with Urias, though. He's never thrown more than 88 innings in any professional season. Most of the projection systems have him down for 130-140 innings pitched. He's being selected as the 42nd pitcher and 119th overall player. Dylan Bundy, who is being selected as the 40th pitcher, is projected to throw over 170 innings with better strikeout and walk rates.
