MacKenzie Gore 2021 Player Outlook: Waiting for the Opportunity to Shine
4 years agoSan Diego Padres starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore will likely open 2021 in the minors following the Padres' addition of three new starters to their rotation. But when the opportunity opens up for Gore to join San Diego, he'll be an impact pitcher almost immediately. After hitting a bit of a sophomore slump in 2018, Gore was electric in 2019 between High- and Double-A. Over 20 starts, Gore posted a 9-2 record with a 1.69 ERA, 0.832 WHIP, 35.7 percent strikeout rate, and 7.4 percent walk rate in 101 innings. Granted there was a slight dip in his numbers upon his promotion to Double-A, but it was only down to a 27.8 percent strikeout rate and an 8.9 percent walk rate over five starts. Once a spot opens up for Gore (ADP 338), he'll be a high-end streaming option right out the gate. If he gets more than a brief appearance in the rotation, he'll be a must add in almost every format.
