Padres Acquiring Joe Musgrove
4 years agoThe San Diego Padres are in agreement on a deal to acquire right-hander Joe Musgrove from the Pittsburgh Pirates in a three-team deal on Monday, according to sources. The trade is pending medical reviews. Hudson Head, a well-regarded center field prospect, is expected to be among a group of prospects heading back to Pittsburgh. Musgrove joins Blake Snell and Yu Darvish as the third starter acquired by the Friars this offseason. The 28-year-old was 1-5 with a 3.86 ERA in eight starts for the Pirates in the shortened 2020 season. The Opening Day starter last year will make $4.45 million in 2021 after avoiding arbitration. Musgrove is 29-38 with a 4.33 ERA in 108 major league appearances (83 starts) over five seasons. He played high school baseball in San Diego and has breakout potential in a pitcher's park and for a strong San Diego team.
