Eduardo Rodriguez 2021 Fantasy Outlook: A Late-Round Value Pick With Upside
4 years agoThe 2020 season was tragic for Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez, as he missed the entire 60-game season due to complications from COVID-19. Fortunately, he has fully recovered and will be ready for the 2021 season. While going a full year without pitching in games certainly makes him very hard to project, we do know that there is upside here. E-Rod has always been able to generate strikeouts (23.8% strikeout rate), and in 2019 he took a big step forward in preventing hard contact, as he posted a career-high 48.5% ground-ball rate. He has always had a little trouble with his command (8.3% career walk rate, 40.8% career strike rate), but if he can ever make improvements in that area, there is real room for overall growth. While the range of outcomes is wide for Rodriguez in 2021, he has looked great in spring training and was recently named the Red Sox's opening day starter. With a 203 ADP, he has a chance to be a real steal in that range.
