Lance Lynn 2021 Player Outlook: Proven Veteran, High-End Fantasy Starter
4 years agoChicago White Sox starting pitcher Lance Lynn had yet another strong season in 2020 with the Rangers, going 6-3 with a 3.32 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and 25.9% strikeout rate over 84 innings pitched. His profile was quite similar to what he has produced throughout his career. He relied mostly on fastballs (four-seamer 50.2%, cutter 22.2%, sinker 18.1%), yet once again managed to strike hitters out thanks to a swinging-strike rate of at least 9.6% for each of those pitches. He allowed slightly below-average exit velocity with a career-high 17.5-degree launch angle, yet still managed to outperform his 4.08 SIERA, as he has done for much of his career. Lynn will have a new home in 2021 and will leave what was a surprisingly pitcher-friendly home park in Globe Life Park to a slightly hitter-friendly park in Guaranteed Rate Field, but that should be more than offset by the upgrade in offense backing him up. At this point in his career, there is no reason to think that Lynn will do anything other than what he has done over the past several seasons given his consistency. He is currently being drafted at pick 60 overall, making him the 21st pitcher off the board. He may not be the most exciting fantasy player, but his current ADP seems reasonable given his performance.
