Anthony Rendon 2021 Outlook: Consistent Production Available at a Slight Discount
4 years agoLos Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon is one of the most consistent performers in MLB, slashing an impressive .286/.418/.497 with nine homers over 232 PAs in his first year with the club. Rendon seldom strikes out, posting a K% below 14 each season since 2017. He also excels at elevating the baseball, posting a FB% above 40 each season since 2016. These two traits give Rendon a safe floor, especially when you consider that his counting stats will be inflated by sharing the heart of the order with one of the best players of all time in Mike Trout. If you're looking for a downside, Rendon's Statcast numbers weren't great last season. His average airborne exit velocity fell from 93.5 mph in 2019 to 92.4 last year, the latter nearly perfectly league-average. Likewise, his 12% rate of Brls/BBE in 2019 was nearly cut in half to 6.3% last season. Rendon's .471 xSLG wasn't quite as good as his .497 slugging percentage, but fantasy gamers should probably give him a pass considering the unique nature of the 2020 season. At his current ADP of 42.27, Rendon is an excellent sign for any roster.
