Gio Urshela Out Three Months After Elbow Surgery
4 years agoNew York Yankees third baseman Gio Urshela (elbow) underwent surgery on Friday to remove a bone chip from his right elbow and is expected to be out for three months. He'll likely miss around half of spring training, which is set to begin in mid-February. Urshela was placed on the 10-day injured list with a bone spur in his elbow on Sept. 4 and missed 11 games. He hit .314 with 21 home runs and 74 RBI in 2019 but finished 12-for-58 (.207) from Sept. 1 through the rest of the season. Urshela hit .238 (5-for-21) with two solo home runs in the five-game Division Series loss to the Astros that year. During the shortened 2020 campaign, he hit .298 with six homers and 30 RBI in 151 at-bats. But he was just 2-for-19 (.105) with no RBI in the postseason.
