Devine Ozigbo 2020 Outlook: Opportunity Presents Itself for Deep Sleeper
4 years agoJacksonville Jaguars running back Devine Ozigbo didn't figure to have fantasy relevance in 2020 but he suddenly finds himself on the radar. The Jags made a shocking move by releasing workhorse RB Leonard Fournette a week before kickoff of Week 1. It's no surprise the team was trying to move on from Fournette but the timing was unexpected. With no free-agent signees or draft picks spent at RB, Ozigbo is now part of a committee where he could share touches with Ryquell Armstead and Chris Thompson.
Thompson is guaranteed the pass-catching role, leaving Ozigbo to challenge Armstead for early-down carries. At 5'11", 222 lbs out of Nebraska, he went undrafted after being snubbed for the NFL Combine in 2019. His disappointing 4.70 40 time at his Pro Day didn't help either. Still, Ozigbo has shown great burst on tape and averaged an impressive 7.1 yards per carry in college. There is nothing that separates Armstead from Ozigbo physically and the team isn't exactly in win-now mode, so anything could happen. If Armstead's ADP gets too rich for an unproven commodity, consider spending a last-round pick on Ozigbo instead.
