Rams Defense 2020 Outlook: Polarizing by Position Group
5 years agoThe Rams Defense in 2020 is going to be interesting to watch because of how much certain positions will have to overcompensate to cover their weaknesses. The Rams arguably have the worst linebacker corps of any 3-4 base defense. Replacing Dante Fowler with Leonard Floyd is a surefire downgrade and losing Cory Littleton for nothing is brutal. Littleton's ability to cover ground in the pass and run was huge for the middle of the field but with the addition of Terrell Burgess via draft and return of a healthy John Johnson, it appears that three-safety sets will be leaned upon this season. The interior DL remains elite thanks to the best talent in the league, Aaron Donald, and the addition of run-stuffer A'Shawn Robinson along with the return of Michael Brockers. Jalen Ramsey will have his side of the field locked down and the young CB group alongside him has enough potential to pop out enough to competently start. There is definitely a depth issue with the Rams but for the most part, this defense will be anchored by Donald, Ramsey, and the safeties. Draft them knowing that big plays are coming but be wary of the high-powered offenses they have loaded in the division.
