David Njoku 2020 Outlook: Playing Second Fiddle To Hooper
5 years agoDavid Njoku was a popular breakout candidate heading into 2019 after he posted 56 catches for 639 yards and four touchdowns in his second season in the NFL. But instead, Njoku was hurt early last year and only played in four games (one start) while catching five passes for 41 yards and a score. It didn't help that he found his way into ex-head coach Freddie Kitchens' doghouse when he returned from his injury. Cleveland picked up the former first-rounder's fifth-year option, but they also signed Austin Hooper and drafted Harrison Bryant. While Njoku could still be utilized in two-tight end sets alongside Hooper in Kevin Stefanski's tight end-friendly system, a change of scenery would probably be best for his fantasy value heading into 2020. At best, the 23-year-old will be a low-end TE2 flier in deeper leagues, but he's unlikely to be rostered in standard-size leagues unless Hooper gets injured.
