Minkah Fitzpatrick 2020 Outlook: Bigger Impact In Real Football Than Fantasy
5 years agoPittsburgh Steelers defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick had a massive impact after being acquired before Week 3 of the 2019 season. The second-year safety finished the 2019 season with 69 tackles (44 solo), one tackle for loss, nine passes defended, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, five interceptions, and two defensive touchdowns. Fitzpatrick collected a majority of his statistics his first seven weeks in Pittsburgh. In that time, Fitzpatrick had 34 tackles (25 solo), five interceptions, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and two total touchdowns. Unfortunately, that production wasn't sustainable for Fitzpatrick. In the last six weeks of the season, the 23-year-old safety collected 23 tackles (11 solo) and just one fumble recovery. Fitzpatrick's finish perfectly illustrates that volatility as the 70th ranked player in IDP leagues. In 2020, the Alabama product projects have a similar role due to the lack of turnover in Pittsburgh's coaching staff. The Steelers also made minimal changes to the players on the defensive side of the football, using three of their first four draft picks on offensive players. While he could be a top-10 defensive back in IDP leagues, it is more realistic to expect a top-20 finish considering how much of his scoring came from statistical categories that are difficult to replicate.
