Allen Lazard 2020 Outlook: Undervalued Late-Round Option
5 years agoGreen Bay Packers wide receiver Allen Lazard enjoyed a modest sophomore season for the team in 2019, accruing 35 catches for 477 yards in 11 games. Lazard first emerged in Week 6 last season and ended the year as the team’s No. 2 wide receiver behind Davante Adams. The Packers surprisingly did not select a wide receiver in this year’s historically loaded class. The organization did bring in veteran receiver Devin Funchess via free agency but he has opted out of the 2020 season, leaving Lazard as the second target behind Adams. Lazard has already exhibited chemistry with Aaron Rodgers and has drawn praise from his QB and head coach. Rodgers recently referred to Lazard as “an ascending player,” hinting at their chemistry on the field. This significance can not be understated as Rodgers will heavily favor players he trusts (see Davante Adams’s 30% target share).
Experience with Rodgers and the lack of WR depth in Green Bay makes Lazard a high-upside target that is available in the later rounds. Lazard has an ADP of the No. 64 wide receiver and 189th player off the board in the NFFC. Lazard is a worthwhile gamble at his current price. He can be targeted as a bench receiver by fantasy owners, with the upside of finishing the year among the top 40 at the position.
