Jared Goff 2020 Outlook: High-Floor Option
5 years agoLos Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff finished the 2019 season as the QB13 in fantasy leagues, throwing for 4,638 yards and 22 touchdowns to go along with 16 interceptions. It marked the first season where he didn’t finish as a top-12 quarterback in fantasy. He also tossed the fewest touchdowns despite throwing more times (626) than he had during any other season as a full-time starter. When the Rams needed to win at the end of the 2019 season to make the playoffs, Sean McVay put faith in Goff’s arm. From Weeks 13-17, Goff attempted 216 passes (43.2 per game) for 1,648 yards and 11 touchdowns to four interceptions. Passing the ball 40 times per game isn’t ideal for Goff, but it shows the Rams aren’t afraid to let him sling it if they need him. In the 2020 offseason, the Rams cut running back Todd Gurley II and traded wide receiver Brandin Cooks, replacing them in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft with rookies Cam Akers and Van Jefferson. Despite those losses, the Rams return their top three receivers in Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp, and Tyler Higbee. Goff is currently ranked as QB18 in the RotoBaller staff rankings, which could represent value for a quarterback with two top-12 seasons under his belt who can pass for over 4,000 yards and 25-plus touchdowns in any given season.
