Mariners Sign Marco Gonzales To Extension
5 years agoThe Seattle Mariners agreed to a four-year, $30 million contract extension with starting pitcher Marco Gonzales on Monday. The extension will begin in 2021 and contains a team option for the 2025 season. He'll make $1 million this year in the final year of his two-year deal. The left-hander was tied for the American League lead with 34 starts and finished tied for fifth with 16 wins. He had a career-low 3.99 ERA while setting career highs in starts, innings pitched and strikeouts. The 27-year-old made the Opening Day start in 2019 and is likely to do so again this year and beyond. The 16 wins were nice for fantasy owners, but Gonzales' poor 6.5 K/9 gives him little upside moving forward.
