Rangers Sign Matt Duffy
5 years agoThe Texas Rangers signed infielder Matt Duffy to a minor league deal on Thursday. The contract will be worth $1 million with another $1.5 million in incentives if he's on the major league roster. Duffy will be invited to spring training and will try to win a utility infield job. Duffy missed all of the 2017 season and once again struggled with injuries in 2019 with the Rays, playing in just 46 games while hitting an underwhelming .252/.343/.327 with a home run and 12 RBI. Even if he makes Texas' roster, he'd only see semi-regular playing time at either third or second base for the Rangers. Duffy would mainly be a bench stash in deep AL-only leagues if he makes the team out of spring training.
