Steven Matz 2020 Outlook: Pick Your Spots To Stream Him
5 years agoMatz has gained a reputation as an injury-prone starting pitcher who has never quite lived up to his billing. But he has been able to make 30 starts in each of the last two seasons, and has pitched well for stretches, even though his final numbers only seem to be adequate. Matz can seemingly deliver a string of good and quality starts before a bad outing or two sets him back. He had ERAs of 3.68 and 33.8 in the first two months and a 7.86 ERA in June before he had a 1.80 July. He is also much better at Citi Field than on the road, as evidenced by a 2.31 ERA at home and 6.62 mark as a visitor. The Mets do monitor him carefully, as his 160.1 IP last year was a career high. Matz is scary to own in Roto as another blowup outing may be around the corner, and he has not reached previous career expectations. If you are able to stream him rather than count on him regularly, you will endure less stress as a Matz owner. You have to hope he can stay healthy and you must use him judiciously if you are going to take him.
