Alec Bohm 2020 Outlook: Skillful Hitter with a Powerful Bat
5 years agoScott Kingery may keep the hot corner warm for a little while in 2020 but he's not going to hold off the Phillies’ 2018 first-round pick for long. Alec Bohm had an impressive first full season in pro ball by playing at three levels and topping out in Double-A. Overall, he hit. 305 with 21 home runs and a BB-K of 57-73. Bohm is an advanced hitter with great plate discipline and he carries additional value in on-base leagues. Although he hit just .269 in 238 at-bats in Double-A, his BABIP of .265 suggests he was unlucky and he maintained strong rates at the plate while seeing increased power in a good hitter’s park. Bohm still has room to focus more on hitting the ball in the air as he hit too many balls on the ground at times in 2019. As a result, he may need a little time to grow into his 20-30 home run potential (although who knows with the Triple-A and MLB balls). It will be interesting to see if Bohm returns to Double-A to open up the 2020 season or if the 63 games he spent there were enough to convince the Phillies he's ready for Triple-A. He may not need more than another 200 at-bats before getting his first taste of big-league action, which would be welcome news for fantasy owners.
