Jose Abreu 2020 Outlook: Only Getting Better?
5 years agoJose Abreu had a spectacular 2019 by hitting .284/.330/.503 with 33 HR, 123 RBI, and 85 R. He set a career-high with the 123 RBI plus led the American League, and the 33 bombs were tied for the second-most in his career. He was promptly rewarded this offseason with a three-year $50 million contract. Things are looking even better for him in 2020 as the White Sox have added Yasmani Grandal, Edwin Encarnacion, and Nomar Mazara to a lineup that finished 13th in the American League in runs scored. He should have plenty more opportunities to score and drive in runs next season. One area fantasy owners would love to see improvement is with Abreu’s BB rate. In 2019, he only walked 36 times, which was a career-low and resulted in a rate of just 5.2%. He ended 2019 ranked just inside the top 12 at first base and currently has an ADP around 84 and is going as the ninth first baseman off the board. He should be a solid choice for a starting first baseman in this range and will provide plenty of power to go along with a very respectable average.
