De'Andre Hunter 2019 Player Outlook
5 years agoTaken with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, the Atlanta Hawks really wanted De'Andre Hunter. So much so that they traded up to acquire the 6-foot-7 wing who figures to enter their starting five from Day 1. That potential starting slot has upped Hunter’s stock from a fantasy perspective entering his rookie campaign. Despite having had just one year as a starter during his collegiate years at the University of Virginia, Hunter averaged 15.2 points per game last season while shooting 52 percent overall and 43.8 percent from behind the arc. He profiles as a deadeye three-point threat for an Atlanta team that was not bashful in firing from long range in ’18-19, finishing third in the league with 37 attempts per game. His fantasy ceiling will be determined by his ability to contribute both on the glass (5.1 rebounds per game as a sophomore) and on the defensive end with steals and blocks. If his offensive arsenal expands as the season progresses, Hunter could challenge for the league’s Rookie of the Year Award. There are a handful of wings that should get considerable minutes on the youthful Hawks squad, but Hunter’s upside should outweigh any concerns about how much action he’ll receive.
