Robert Covington 2019 Player Outlook
5 years agoMinnesota Timberwolves small forward Robert Covington is one of the many players who will look to put their injury problems behind them in 2019-20. He made only 35 appearances last season, which he split between the Wolves and Philadelphia. Covington made a name for himself in Philly as a great 3-and-D guy, but he also looked like a very good offensive weapon in Minnesota, posting multiple 20-plus point games and averaging 14.5 points in the end with 5.7 rebounds and 2.3 steals. Head coach Ryan Saunders sees Covington as his starting power forward and, with the Timberwolves looking pretty thin on the frontcourt, that sets him up to logging massive minutes. Covington averaged just below 35 minutes in 22 games for Minnesota last season. If he manages to stay clear of injuries, Covington looks set to have a career year in 2019-20, and he might even end up leading the whole league in a category like steals. Paul George was the steals king in 2018-19, averaging 2.2 per game. Covington surpassed that number if we only count the time he spent in Minnesota. His total average for the season was 2.1.
