BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 19% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: San Diego Padres pitcher Cal Quantrill has delivered in just about every opportunity he's been granted for the team this year. He's been used in a variety of roles, as a traditional starter, as a long reliever following an opener and even as an opener himself. Over the year, he's 5-3 with a 3.21 ERA, 1.14 WHIP.
Simply put, Quantrill has been one of the more effective pitchers the Padres have deployed this year. He has a solid chance of maintaining a more consistent rotation spot going forward if he can continue his success. While his strikeout rate of 19.7% on the year is low, he's done a solid job of minimizing hard contact with a hard-hit rate of 33.6% and he's also maintained a low walk rate of 6.2%.
Quantrill threw 148 innings across Double-A and Triple-A last year, so he shouldn't have anything close to the innings limit his fellow rookie teammate Chris Paddack has as Paddack threw just 90 innings last year. Add Quantrill if he's available in NL-only leagues and 12+ team leagues. He's also a worthy add in more shallow mixed leagues for anyone who has a pitching spot to fill. His next start will be at home against the Rays on Wednesday.
