Rockies Option Kyle Freeland
6 years agoThe Colorado Rockies sent struggling starting pitcher Kyle Freeland to Triple-A on Friday and activated relief pitcher Chris Rusin (back) from the injured list in a corresponding move. What a flip of the script it has been for the left-hander, as he went 17-7 with a sparkling 2.85 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 7.7 K/9 in 33 starts for Colorado in a breakout 2018 season. He's 2-6 with a 7.13 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, 25 walks and 49 strikeouts in his 12 starts (59 1/3 innings) this year. The difference has been the homers allowed; he's already given up 16 long balls after allowing 17 each in the previous two seasons. Coors Field can do that. Freeland will go back to the farm to work on his craft, but he can be dropped in mixed leagues for now.
