Cam Newton 2019 Outlook: Rushing Production Key To Fantasy Value
6 years agoCarolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton's fantasy value is tied to his ability to continue rushing, along with the recovery from the shoulder surgery he underwent in the offseason. Newton is surrounded by the best receiving talent that he has had in his career in the NFL. Christian McCaffrey broke out last season and established himself as arguably the best pass catching back in the league, as well as an effective rusher. Greg Olsen is aging, but if fit he will continue to be a big body in the middle of the field. The Panthers also have a great dynamic duo of wide receivers with D.J. Moore and Curtis Samuel, who both impressed last season. Samuel missed his rookie season through injury, and so in effect, the Panthers had two rookie receivers on the field last season, and both players should be able to take a step forward. Surrounded with that level of talent with the likely rushing production that Newton typically produces makes him a constant darkhorse to be one of the highest scoring fantasy quarterbacks. However, it is important to keep an eye on injury news in the offseason, given Newton's shoulder surgery in the offseason. Newton wasn't able to throw in OTAs, although coach Ron Rivera stated to the media that he missed time due to personal reasons.
