Dodgers Recalling Catching Prospect
6 years agoThe Los Angeles Dodgers placed catcher Austin Barnes (groin) on the 10-day injured list on Monday with a minor groin injury and called up catcher Will Smith from the minors in a corresponding move. Barnes is expected to miss the minimum 10 days, so Smith's stay in the big leagues may be short as he splits time with Russell Martin. Manager Dave Roberts said that Smith will start on Tuesday. The club's No. 5 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, was hitting .290/.404/.551 with eight home runs and 28 RBI in 38 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City and could become relevant in two-catcher leagues in the short term.
