Amari Cooper 2019 Outlook: Finally The Player We Thought He’d Be?
6 years agoOnce upon a time, Amari Cooper was the next great wide receiver, and then the 2017 season happened, in which Cooper was held to just 680 receiving yards and looked to be turning into a bust. But the Raiders dealt Cooper to the Dallas Cowboys during the 2018 season, and in nine games with Dallas, Cooper caught 53 passes for 725 yards and six touchdowns. The fourth-year wideout was finally starting to look like he was ready to fulfill the promise he showed early in his Raiders career. Now, Cooper is the unquestioned number-one option for the Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott, who looks to be on the upswing after a solid ending to his 2018 campaign. With a new offensive coordinator in tow as well in Dallas, the Cowboys offense could reach new heights in 2019, and the development of the Prescott and Cooper connection will be a huge piece of that. Yes, Cooper’s fantasy owners will have to assume the risk that the former Alabama receiver will revert to the inconsistent ways that plagued the end of his Oakland career, but it’s a good bet that he’ll be a dynamic part of the Cowboys offense this year, finally giving the team a successor to Dez Bryant as their top receiving threat on the outside. Consider him a WR2 with WR1 upside heading into 2019.
