Travis Kelce 2019 Outlook: The League’s Best Tight End
6 years agoWith Rob Gronkowski finally off to his long-rumored retirement, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is ready to begin his reign as the NFL’s undisputed best tight end. In 2018, Kelce posted his third consecutive 1000-yard season, finishing with a career-high 1,336 yards and grabbing 10 touchdowns. With second-year quarterback Patrick Mahomes taking over the starting duties for the Chiefs last year, the team’s offense exploded, and Kelce was a key beneficiary of that explosion. Kelce gives the Chiefs a big target in the red zone, as evidenced by the 24 red zone targets he received last year, which he converted into nine red zone touchdowns. With plenty of questions about the other options in the Chiefs receiving corps, Kelce should be Mahomes’ top target this season, putting him in line to finish as the overall TE1 in fantasy. He’s finished first or second at his position in three straight years and has shown no signs of slowing down, and even if the Chiefs offense isn’t quite as explosive in Mahomes’ second year as a starter, Kelce’s going to see enough targets to be worth his ADP. He should be the first tight end taken in all redraft leagues.
