Marvin Jones 2019 Outlook: Mid-round Receiver With Week Winning Upside
6 years agoDetroit Lions wide receiver Marvin Jones is a talented wide receiver, who returns to the team having been downgraded as the team's number two receiver, behind Kenny Golladay. While in previous seasons Matthew Stafford has had to air the ball out to keep the Lions in the game, with the team often struggling on defense. However, with the appointment of Matt Patricia last season, and now Darrell Bevell as the offensive coordinator, the number of pass attempts is likely to decrease in favor of more rush attempts. The 2018 season was a change of pace year for Jones, with Golladay taking the focus of defenses and slot receiver Golden Tate being traded midseason. The team replaced Tate with the off-season signing of Danny Amendola, meaning that Jones is likely to stay in running downfield for receptions. Jones is a mid-round receiver that has the ability to win any game week, due in part to the downfield area that he occupies. Working downfield with an average depth of target of 15 yards, Jones has the ability to streak downfield for big gains. However, that boom or bust nature shows in his season stats, only topping 1,000 receiving yards once in the past four seasons and only besting five touchdowns once in that time. Jones ultimately is a player who can win you a fantasy week, but he cannot be fully relied upon as a week to week starter.
