Vince Velasquez 2019 Outlook: Needs To Take Next Step Forward
6 years agoVince Velasquez has always had sky-high potential. He struck out 16 Padres in an April 2016 start, and has flirted with a no-hitter on multiple occasions. He finally got to 30 starts last year, and while his ERA was none too impressive (4.85), his 9.88 K/9 was one of the better marks for full-time starters. Velasquez will need to take the final step forward in his development this year, as he will turn 27 during the season and is running out of time to become the high-end starter his talent implies. He should be owned in all leagues, although don't reach for him any earlier than Round 20.
