Jhoulys Chacin 2019 Outlook: Don't Expect A Repeat
6 years agoMilwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin finally had the best season of his career, albeit at 30 years of age and in his first year of Milwaukee. He had career-bests in wins (15), strikeouts (156), and WHIP (1.16). Despite his successes, Chacin was below average in K-BB% (10.7%), first-pitch strikes (58.4%), and swinging strikes (8.4%). He also had the lowest ground-ball rate (42.2%) since his 2012 season. Though he had a very good season, Chacin doesn’t have the stuff to serve as the ace of a staff, as he is currently tasked. He still plays for a team with a great offense, but he will not have the luxury of having Derek Johnson as his pitching coach to help him in 2019. Rotoballer ranked Chacin as the 82nd overall starting pitcher, and the ADP of 244 provides very little value compared to the little upside.
