Edwin Encarnacion Expected To Report To Camp
6 years agoSeattle Mariners designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion is expected to report to spring training this week on Saturday, according to a source. The Mariners have made it known that they'd like to flip Encarnacion after acquiring him from the Indians this offseason, but trade talks haven't advanced in recent days. The veteran's appeal is mostly limited to the American League, and there are available free-agent designated hitters available. The 36-year-old is still likely to be traded before this summer's trade deadline and is due $20 million this year with a $5 million buyout on a $20 million option for 2020. Encarnacion's OPS declined last year for the third straight year and while he's still an above-average player with power, he's certainly not attractive as he once was.
