Steve Pearce 2019 Outlook: From MVP To Undrafted
6 years agoWell, no one saw that coming… Steve Pearce, 2018 World Series MVP. With that being said, there’s a reason why lots of people watching the post-season had no idea who he was. The Red Sox acquired the 35-year-old from the Blue Jays on June 29. In the remaining 80 games, Pearce saw the field 50 times. Out of those 50 games, he had two or fewer ABs in 19 of them. When he’s in the lineup he can put up good counting stats, but the appearances aren’t frequent enough. In 215 at-bats, Pearce hit 11 homers and 14 doubles with a .284 batting average. The outfielder is mostly used as a weapon against left-handed pitching. For that reason, assuming Pearce goes undrafted, the best mode of action is to stream him during weeks that Boston faces mostly lefties. Apart from that, he may be worth an add in AL-Only leagues, or deep, mixed leagues, but if an owner is foolish enough to draft him before his 529 ADP, let them.
