Jose Berrios 2019 Outlook: Potential Breakout is Looming
6 years agoJose Berrios represented the Minnesota Twins in the All-Star Game last season, and he finished the year with a 12-11 record with a 3.84 ERA. He reached the peak of the 200-strikeout mountain, as he finished with 202 strikeouts in 192.1 innings. Even as a casual fan of the MLB, you likely saw clips of his nasty off-speed pitches resulting in batters locking up their knees, and walking back to the dugout disappointed in their results at the dish. The upside is most definitely there for Berrios entering the 2019 season, as he will be turning 25-years-old in May and already has plenty of MLB experience with 71 career starts under his belt. Berrios is ranked as the 22nd starting pitcher and the 71st overall player, according to the RotoBaller Rankings, which slots him in as an early eighth-round draft pick. If you decide to load up on your batters to begin your draft, Berrios has the skill set to end up as a top-10 starting pitcher at the end of the season if everything works out in his favor. Selecting him early is a risk, but it should be a risk you're willing to take.
